Israel won't do business with Pat Robertson after the evangelical leader suggested Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's massive stroke was divine punishment, a tourism official said Wednesday, putting into doubt plans to develop a large Christian tourism center in northern Israel.

Televangelism is just about making money and has found its way into politics. I guess it's just good marketing. People are vulnerable because they believe - this makes those exploiting them so evil. Sometimes I think this whole resurgence of religion is just to make more money so the church can pay off all the priest kiddie fiddler lawsuits.

It is better to live life on your own terms, cos I gotta tell you, those religious types may be some of the most wicked around! And it seems to be more of a means of controlling people.

C.S. Lewis. What a fantastic quote. I feel sorry for the Christians I've known over the years. Very sorry. The confusion they deal with, trying to fashion reality to fit their theology. I'd get mad about it if it didn't sicken me so much to listen to the things they say. A televangelist or travelling preacher is capable, with the right amount of charm (heh, all things considered), to persuade people to dump out the contents of their wallets and purses and leave it at the altar, believing that their "financial blessing" was on its way. I've seen that. (You may have, as well.) All I could do was sit there shaking my head at that particular aspect of the human condition.

I think the good friends I made in college have disowned me, but one of them was all too aware of the twisted logic of the college administration. The school maxim we came up with for our Bible college was, "Do what you're told. We'll do the thinking for you."

There was the Sinclair Lewis quote - "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the
cross." People who accept external control are easy to manipulate. And the people who manipulate are human and flawed and I would think people would be smart enough to notice that. At any rate, the mind was meant to be free and being good hearted ought to be enough.
