The Krispy Kreme Challenge

"Every year serious athletes line up in Raleigh, North Carolina. For some this is what they have been training for all year. For others it is an excuse to gorge on gooey glazed donuts. Okay, for most it's just a fun Saturday activity for a good cause. This is the Krispy Kreme Challenge and it has become a notable tradition in this Eastern city.
The race is two miles down and two back. The thing that separates this race from others is that at the turn-around point racers must gobble down one dozen Krispy Kreme donuts. This makes the two mile return run somewhat painful and very interesting. The whole race must be completed within an hour.
The race is done in fun and done for charity. Money raised benefits the North Carolina Children’s Hospital and according to WRAL it expects to raise $30,000 this year. From its beginning in 2005 the race has grown from 10 runners to 3,300 in 2008."
