I'm in the Shenandoah Valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, still on vacation.  We went to the Shenandoah Caves today - and visited the accompanying kitsch wonderland.  The breakfast special in the Johnny Appleseed Restaurant was pork chops with mashed potatoes smothered in sausage gravy, biscuits and fried sweet apples (apple pie innards without the crust.)  I didn't see anyone eating the special but the fried apples and apple dumplings come with every order.  Southern cooking.  sheesh.

My house back in New Jersey has been spared.  The power was off for a short while but is back on. The basement is dry.  Friends without power have been using my house.  I told them to raid my cabinets but they said they have what they need.  They tell me there are branches down all over the property.  Ellen had a shower and Diana's son has been sleeping there.  The pets will be enjoying the visitors, especially Ichi our bad boy orange cat.  He especially likes Diana and one time I saw him kissing her feet.

Friends tell me there are long lines of crabby people waiting to buy gas so I'm concerned about getting back home.  I have been fortunate and hope y'all are safe and comfortable.
